Now that the cold weather has arrived, district councils are taking the opportunity to remind homeowners in the area of their loan scheme to replace heating systems. The scheme has been developed to keep people warm and cosy in their homes over the winter months.
The loan scheme is open to people who heat their homes with gas, oil, Calor gas, LPG, electric or other sources and to those who do not currently have central heating installed. The scheme has been set up to enable eligible homeowners to choose their own contractor and there are a variety of loan products available to suit individual needs and means.
The loans are delivered through Wessex Resolutions CIC, a not-for-profit Responsible Finance provider in close partnership with the council. The partnership has been running for fifteen years and has helped a huge variety of homeowners, from people simply requiring a new gas boiler to those needing the whole system installed, through to people living in off gas properties updating oil systems or those that have lived without heating for years because they did not know help was available. We have even funded air source heat pumps!
If your boiler has packed up or your current system is inefficient, a loan funded by the council could help spread the cost of a replacement but let you enjoy the benefit right away.
Through providing loans, the council are ensuring that funds for homeowners are sustainable which means that every repayment goes back into the council pot to lend to homeowners into the future.
For some people, boiler grant funding may be available via the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme. We do not administer this scheme but if we believe you may be eligible for boiler grant funding elsewhere, we would always signpost you first. Many of our clients have received grant funding under the ECO scheme and local council ECOflex scheme, and borrow from us to top-up a boiler grant shortfall. Our Useful Information Page may also assist you with finding boiler grants or grants for other energy saving measures such as cavity wall insulation and loft insulation.
